Starting pay is $10.38 per hour with part-time City benefit package, including health insurance. Regular part-time position works five daytime hours daily Monday thru Friday and some additional hours on weekends.

Position performs routine and semiskilled work in feeding, watering, and general humane care of animals at the Zoo, assists the Zookeeper, and performs work in the general maintenance and cleaning of the Zoo facilities and park grounds. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to six months of experience in the care of animals is preferred. Must be able to lift and manipulate heavy weights (50 lbs. & up) frequently.

The City of Dodge City is accepting applications for a regular part-time Animal Control Officer in the Animal Control Division (minimum of 20 hours per week). Starting pay is $12.02 per hour with part-time City Benefit Package including single health insurance. This part-time position will work Saturdays and Sundays and several hours on some week nights throughout the week.

Duties involve patrolling for and capturing stray animals to ensure public safety; responding to and resolving public complaints about strays; educating the public on animal care and containment; documenting calls and keeping accurate records in computer software; enforcing ordinances by issuing citations, oral and written warnings and other related duties. High school diploma or equivalent required; valid Kansas driver’s license with good driving record; and a minimum of two years general experience in animal care, criminal law and/or customer service.  Must be able to lift and manipulate at least 75 pounds in order to perform the duties of this position.

The City of Dodge City is accepting applications for a Full-Time Maintenance Workers in the Public Works Dept.

Maintenance Worker I – Sanitation(new opening) – Position performs manual labor with loading all types of refuse collection, including chasing trash trucks. Work also includes maintaining trash trucks, trash karts and dumpsters, record keeping, working at recycle center, and other duties as assigned in the Public Works Department.

Maintenance Worker I, Street Department (2 new openings)Position performs manual labor in the repair, maintenance and minor construction of City streets and storm drainage systems; removal of snow/ice; and other duties as assigned in the Public Works Department.

Salary range for these positions is $11.44 – $17.69 per hour, with full-time benefit package, DOQ.  Positions work a minimum of 40 hours per week and are classified non-exempt.

These jobs require physical work including lifting and manipulating up to 75 lbs, and performing these duties in all types of weather.  A valid Kansas driver’s license is required with good driving record, and must obtain a Class B CDL with air-brake endorsement within 6 months of hire for Utilities and Sanitation positions.

City of Dodge City Internship Opportunities

The City of Dodge City is seeking a student intern who will assist the Development Services Dept. This position will oversee and assist with manual labor which will involve building maintenance and construction projects on houses in the CHAD (Community Housing & Development) program. Knowledge of construction procedures and techniques is required, along with good organizational skills and ability to follow written or verbal directions in English. Requires physical work including lifting and manipulating up to 50 lbs,

Position will work 40 hours per week and are classified as seasonal. Hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. weekdays, with one hour lunch break. Rate of pay is $10 per hour.

The City of Dodge City is currently hiring 26-week and 12-week seasonal workers in the Parks, Forestry, Zoo, Cemetery, and Athletic Field Maintenance divisions to begin work between April – June, 2015. Work involves a variety of manual labor in the maintenance and care of parks, landscaping, athletic fields, and City buildings. Duties include mowing, trimming, general custodial duties and more.
