Full time Maintenance Worker, Parks Department – Position performs manual labor which includes park maintenance; mowing; trash removal; construction of park/playground equipment; repair and maintenance to underground irrigation lines; and snow removal. This job requires physical work including lifting and manipulating up to 50 lbs, and performing these duties in all types of weather. Preference for someone with underground sprinkler installation and repair experience. Requires a minimum of one year of grounds maintenance, a valid Kansas driver’s license and a good driving record.

Position includes full-time benefit package, including health insurance, KPERS, vacation and sick leave. Salary range for position is $11.44 – $19.50 per hour; hire rate $11.44 per hour, DOQ.

The City of Dodge City is seeking a committed, experienced person to join our team in the Developmental Services/Inspection Department.

The City of Dodge City is seeking a Building/Property Maintenance Official in the Developmental Services/Inspection Dept. This position performs inspections for the enforcement of codes and ordinances for building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical for both residential and commercial construction in order to regulate construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, and ensures the public’s health safety and welfare by enforcing the property maintenance codes.

Starting rate of pay is $16.88 per hour, salary range is $16.88 – $26.14, DOQ. Position includes full benefit package, including health/dental/life insurance, KPERS retirement, vacation, sick leave and holidays.

High School diploma or equivalent required; three years of building trades or code enforcement experience is preferred or equivalent educational background; and the ability to acquire certification in at least two of the major areas of code enforcement is required. This permanent, full-time position serves as Park Manager and is located at HorseThief Reservoir (Jetmore, KS). The incumbent provides direct coordination to operate HorseThief Reservoir as directed by the HorseThief Reservoir Board of Directors. Duties include but are not limited to; coordinating efforts to provide broad-based recreational opportunities, such as camping, water-based recreation, day use, special events, and programs; preparing annual budget; purchasing supplies and equipment; directing the sale of permits and licenses, includes the collection and accounting of funds received; planning and overseeing contracted work; supervising and coordinating the construction, maintenance and repair of area buildings, grounds, equipment, roads, ditches, shelters, beaches, boat ramps and utilities; interviewing, hiring, training and evaluating employees; enforcing rules, and regulations pertaining to the protection of park facilities and visitors; providing information regarding park rules, facilities, and area history; and planning special events, attending outdoor shows, become a member of KRPA, applying for grant opportunities, keeping friends and volunteer groups active, working directly Ford, Finney, Gray and Hodgeman county Economic Development; working with Kansas legislature, KDWPT personnel, local law enforcement, emergency management . Must work holidays and weekends–Memorial weekend, Independence Day weekend, Labor Day weekend and other days and weekends for events as required.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Hiring Salary range $48,000- $54,000, DOQ; paid single health and life insurance; KPERS retirement; deferred holidays, compensatory time and sick/ vacation leave.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Two years of experience in directing operations relevant to the agency’s operations. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. A bachelor’s degree and work experience in wildlife or park operations are preferred. Applicants with demonstrated capabilities as an effective communicator who enjoy working with the general public, community programs, emergency management, and dedicated enthusiasm for long hours in a state park setting will be given preference. The successful candidate must pass a background check and must be a credible witness in court; must have the ability to travel on extended or overnight events and training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires the incumbent to have the ability to become certified as a law enforcement officer by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission. The selected candidate must take and pass a State of Kansas Controlled Substance prior to appointment, and is subject to random testing for alcohol and controlled substances following employment. The selected candidate must obtain have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Kansas Commercial Driver’s License and Water Systems Operator license prior to obtaining permanent status.
