Public Water Supply Compliance Inspections: Performs inspections of public water supplies to determine compliance with federal and state statutes and regulations and to protect public health. Evaluate PWS monitoring data to assess compliance with MCLs. Analyzes operational protocols and collects and compiles inspection findings to prepare reports and correspondence. Complete all inspection reports using SWIFT for electronic submission to Bureau of Water within 20 working days. As appropriate or necessary, collect samples for field determination or submittal to the KDHE laboratory which supports violation citations and potentially enforcement referrals. Track facility progress in resolving significant deficiencies to ensure they are corrected in a timely manner (normally 30 days). Evaluate corrective actions through on-site inspections and/or written or electronic communications. Update SWIFT to document correction of deficiencies. Confer with supervisor/DEA/BOW staff on issues of chronic non-compliance for potential enforcement referral.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Wastewater Treatment Facility Compliance Inspections: Performs inspections of municipal, commercial and industrial wastewater treatment facilities to determine compliance with the facility operating permit, state and federal regulations and statutes, the procedures utilized to protect public health. Evaluates monitoring data collected by the facility to demonstrate compliance with permit effluent limits. Analyzes plant operational protocols and collects and compiles monitoring data. Prepare inspection report and correspondence to the facility which explains inspection findings including violations or deficiencies which require corrective action. Establish compliance deadlines for resolution of corrective actions. Submit inspection reports and correspondence to the facility and BOW within 20 working days. Using professional discretion collects samples for submittal to the KDHE laboratory to demonstrate concerns and deficiencies observed, to document violations, and to support potential enforcement referrals. Conducts timely follow up on compliance deadlines to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Qualifications
Education:
High School, GED
Licensing & Certification:
Valid Driver's License - Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid driver's license when operating a state vehicle, a private vehicle, or a rental vehicle for the benefit of the State
Preferred Qualifications:
Four years’ experience in environmental, agricultural or natural sciences/resources
Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes
Proofreading, editing, attention to detail
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent oral and written communication abilities
Strong computer skills particularly in Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes
Inspection experience
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience in an environmental field and/or program. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency
