Combination Technician

United is seeking a skilled and motivated Combination Technician to join our team. This position blends outside plant construction and equipment operation with customer network installation and support, offering a dynamic role for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and providing excellent service. Key Responsibilities:

  • Place and maintain underground cable and conduit systems.

  • Maintain rights-of-way and perform construction project cleanups.

  • Install and remove aerial cable.

  • Install and maintain pedestals, poles, carrier sites, and equipment at subscriber locations.

  • Operate construction equipment including:

    • Vibratory plows

    • Excavators

    • Trenchers

    • Horizontal directional drilling equipment

  • Bury mainlines in rights-of-way and easements and service drops at customer locations.

  • Respond to outside plant emergency calls.

  • Provide excellent customer service by maintaining, troubleshooting, installing, and documenting customer and business premise equipment.

  • Install and support residential customer networks, including learning the installation of ONTs and Wi‑Fi routers.

  • Use test equipment and software to locate, document, repair, and close trouble tickets with minimal repeat issues.

Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills for Success:

  • Preferred knowledge of fiber optic installation techniques, equipment, and industry standards.

  • Preferred proficiency in operating and maintaining construction equipment such as trenchers, plows, and boring machines.

Qualifications:

  • 1–3 years of experience in the construction field preferred.

  • Valid CDL driver’s license and ability to travel to various job sites as needed.

  • Knowledge and skills typically gained through a certification or diploma program in construction, telecommunications, or a related field preferred.
