<p><strong>Essential Functions:</strong> (Percentage represents approximate time spent on function)</p>
<ul>
<li>Teaches and counsels youth on appropriate skills and behaviors (35%) - Identifies what skills are present or lacking and prioritizes target behaviors for each youth in order to emphasize maximum skill development.  Describes appropriate skills or behaviors to youth and provides rationales for why a youth should or should not do certain things.  Teaches youth specific social skills for appropriate public conduct.  Teaches youth independent living skills and self-care habits.  Provide youth feedback with praise for practicing and displaying appropriate behaviors and implement consequences for inappropriate behaviors.  Practices appropriate skills with youth in order to increase learning and maintenance (e.g., role plays).  Serves as role model for youth by exhibiting skills taught in program.  Conducts ongoing assessments of youth&#8217;s target behaviors and measures progress.  Lead clients in food preparation following KDHE and dietician requirements.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Provides and fosters loving, caring, and safe environment (35%) - Provides constant emotional support by using praise, affection, and empathy (e.g., celebrates birthdays).  Uses rational problem solving techniques to counsel youth through personal problems.  Provides positive feedback to youth in order to build self-confidence and respect.  Monitors off-campus activities and observes constant interactions of youth during home, recreational, and leisure times for appropriate social skills and safety.  Provides crisis intervention to youth out of instructional control.  Checks youth&#8217;s work for completion, thoroughness and timeliness.  Perform orientation of new clients.  Schedules appointments for doctors and dentists and provides transportation.  Cares for ill homebound youths.  Provides transportation to social activities as well as medical emergencies. Help maintain presentable image for cottage including light housekeeping and cottage laundry.  Ensure health and safety standards are met as specified by Youthville, KDHE, and JCAHO.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Maintain and prepare records (15%) - Writes daily on youth progress.  Prepares incident and varience reports.  Maintains home filing system for daily schedules, menus, and maintenance items.  Accurately and completely document client behavior, medication administration and interactions in milieu notes for each shift.  Milieu all treatment oriented / focused paperwork and any other required documentation as needed.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Provides for moral/spiritual/ educational development (15%) - Discusses academic performance with youth emphasizing the importance of completing education.  Discusses youths progress with teachers and school personnel.  Teaches and reinforces good study habits.  Assists youth with school assignments and checks homework for thoroughness and quality.  Teaches youth the importance of obeying social laws.  Teaches youth appropriate religious behavior.  Attends or takes youth to religious services, conferences, and other events.  Reinforces the scriptures and sermon with the youth and how it is applicable to his or her daily life.  Encourages youth involvement in religious activities and religious service projects in the community.</li>
<li>Budget management (5%) - Complete inventory, order/purchase clothes, food, household supplies and misc. as needed.  Monitors budget to ensure that it stays within guidelines set by Unit Supervisor.  Prepares and submits reimbursement statements by collecting receipts and account for the money spent.  Maintains filing system for receipts of food, clothing, entertainment, allowances, supplies, and other expenditures.  Assists Unit Supervisor as needed in the operation of the cottage.</li>
<li>Acts as a liaison for external agencies, and internal personnel (5%) - Attend and participate in team meetings.  Communicates with treatment team on youth.  Consults with other staff about youth&#8217;s behaviors and progress.  Communicate with parents and guardians regarding youth’s behavior and skill development.  Keep key agencies updated on youth&#8217;s progress.  Maintains contact with  to obtain and or give information, schedule appointments, and to coordinate activities.  Consult with medical staff the medical needs of clients including dispensing client medication as required and pain management.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Knowledge, Skill &amp; Ability Requirements: </strong> Must be 21 years of age. A thorough reference verification procedure is performed in order to determine the worker’s ability to satisfactorily and safely care for youth. The background check includes validating the driver&#8217;s license and evaluating an individual&#8217;s driving record, e.g. DUI, reckless driving, moving violations and at fault accidents.</p>

<p><strong>Physical Requirements &amp; Working Conditions: </strong> Required to physically assist in the verbal and physical restraint of clients up to 250 lbs who need external controls.  See well enough to read reports, monitor youth, drive a vehicle, and observe discrete behaviors.  Hear well enough to converse on telephone and hear comments mumbled under breath.  Speak well enough to teach skills, give feedback, discuss strategies, and converse on telephone.  Body movement or mobility to track behaviors of youth moving around the house.  Ability to walk up stairs (where necessary) to provide 15-minute room checks throughout a 8-12 hour shift and get into and out of a vehicle.  Dexterity to write, cook, type on a keyboard and help with activities.  Strength to lift and carry-groceries and suitcases up to 50 lbs.  Stamina to work on your feet, as needed for 12-hour shifts.</p>
<p>Worker is subject to outside environmental conditions occasionally; inside conditions frequently, with protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.   The work includes constant interruptions, inappropriate behaviors, and the potential for verbal and physical threats from youth.</p>
<p><strong>Education &amp; Training: </strong>High school diploma or equivalent required.  Two years of college and six hours of behavioral science college courses <strong>or </strong>two years of related work experience to work in intensive (level 6) program required.  Maintain agency-required training.</p>
<p><strong>Certification/Licensure: </strong>Maintain agency required certification/licensure.</p>
<p><strong>Work Experience:</strong> Prefer experience with youth or adolescents.</p>
