(B)       six months’ teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools;

 

OPTION 2:               A child development associate credential and one year of teaching

experience in licensed centers or preschools, or supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools;

 

OPTION 3: (A)      An associate of arts degree or a two-year certificate in child development; and

(B)       one year of teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools, or a supervised practicum in licensed centers or preschools;

 

OPTION 4:    (A)       an A.B. or B.S. degree in child development or early childhood education,

Including a supervised practicum; and

 

(B)       three months’ teaching experience in licensed centers or preschools; or

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Administrator/Director of the First Christian Church Childcare Center must have knowledge of the following:

 

  1. Organizational and administrative procedures involved in the operation of a childcare center.
  2. Considerable knowledge of individual’s behavior and the growth and development of children and the impact of group relationships.
  3. Knowledge of the factors which cause problems in children.
  4. Knowledge in current research and literature in the field of childcare.
  5. Ability to plan and direct comprehensive programs of care and activities for a childcare center.
  6. Ability to establish warm and supportive relationships with children on a group and individual basis, gaining their confidence and trust and imparting sense of security.
  7. Ability to recognize problems of both physical and psychological nature as exhibited by children.
  8. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with state staff, board members, center staff and the community.
  9. Ability to organize and conduct in-service training and parent education programs.
  10. Ability to prepare and support a budget
  11. Knowledgable and well versed with the Kansas licensing standards
  12. Must have strong leadership, supervisory and customer service skills and ability to create/maintain partnerships with families and staff
  13. Ability to lead staff in implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum
  14. Must have strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks or crisis situations effectively
  15. Computer literacy
  16. Be responsible for setting the tone for the daycare, both spiritually and professionally, by the way you handle yourself with staff, parents and the children.

Duties and Responsibilities will include (but not limited to) the following:

  1. Manage day-to-day activities at the daycare.
  2. Supervise activities designed to meet the physical, emotional and creative needs of the child and to assure his/her physical care and protection.
  3. Grow your team by hiring, training, supervising and inspiring a team of passionate, committed teachers
  4. Collaborate with families to support and share the educational needs of their children
  5. Inspire each child’s potential through our curriculum and strong family partnerships
  6. Play an integral role in continuing the First Christian Church Childcare Center’s commitment to quality Biblical teaching
  7. Help staff develop appropriate curriculum for their classroom.
  8. Oversee physical facilities and report any repairs needed immediately.
  9. Ensure compliance with the local surveyor and KDHE, both in regard to the physical environment and the staff.
  10. Oversee the management of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)
  11. Monitor both teachers and students for progress and address any issues that may arise
  12. Administer record keeping
  13. Maintain good rapport with parents and staff
  14. Spend about 30% of time visiting classrooms, doing observations and helping teachers as needed.
  15. Assure adequate records are maintained on staff and children.
  16. Attend and participate in professional meetings and conferences.
  17. Do weekly staff scheduling
  18. Process enrollment
  19. Plan and implement the daily programs in accordance with the Philosophy of our Christian childcare.
  20. Observe children for special needs and make the appropriate referrals and recommendations.
  21. Assure that equipment and materials are adequate, age appropriate and in good condition.
  22. Organize staff meetings and maintain records on all enrollees and staff.
  23. Be responsible for the overall planning and supervision of field trips.
  24. Responsible for providing all needed updates and information to parents.
  25. Make daily observations of the health of children, and report any condition that may need attention.
  26. Be available to the Daycare Committee who will oversee all operations of the First Christian Church Childcare Center Ministry.
  27. Accomplish other assigned duties

Curriculum Development

The director works with qualified staff to develop an appropriate curriculum and ensures that it complies with state and federal requirements as well as follows Biblical teaching.

Facilities Management

The director makes sure that the center’s physical facilities comply with local, state and federal laws and are a safe and appropriate environment for children. The director has knowledge of local, state and federal laws regarding safety requirements and inspection and certification procedures, and ensures that the center complies with those requirements. The center director also evaluates and purchases equipment and supplies for the center as approved by the Daycare committee.

Staffing Management

The Childcare is staffed by teachers, assistant teachers, a cook & custodian. The director manages this staff, developing job descriptions, interviewing candidates, maintaining staff development and education and, if necessary, managing disciplinary processes.

The director ensures that all staff meet the requirements for their jobs. The director is also responsible for maintaining their own qualifications. In-service hours, 1st Aid & CPR, a TB test, physical and a background check are a few of the requirements for all staff.
